No Time for Snow?

Hello there, small population of readers.  I've been sitting around all week wondering what to blog about while people have been hounding me, telling me I have more and more work to do.  I looked outside at the snow that gave us a second winter break, then back at the various study guides and scholarship applications strewn about my desk, and my next blog-topic dawned on me: Why am I too busy to enjoy snow days?  We seniors joke about never doing our homework (and, ask any of my teachers, I'm pretty good at living up to that stereotype), but when it comes down to doing things that are important to our plans for the future, we do put in a lot of effort.  Unfortunately, over these past few snow days, I've found that I can't focus on really important things with all the guilt of skipping over or half-assing random busywork hanging over my head.  On top of that, being stuck inside while my family's "senior year syndrome" (you know, when they all cling to you every second as you beg for more independence because "you're growing up so fast!") intensifies is only bearable for a few hours at a time.  I love them, really, but I'm developing a terrible case of cabin fever.  I just remember how great snow days used to be back when I wasn't going to be about $10,000 short per school year, and when I didn't need to worry so much about getting 100% on every test I took, whether I actually planned on doing something with the skills I learned from that class or not.  Instead of building snowmen, I've spend my past few days building my resume so I can get a summer job.  Not that I haven't gotten out of my house or spent time with friends over the break, because I have, but each time I did was squeezed into a tight schedule full of "more important tasks".  I understand that all of this stuff has to be done, but I really wish that the work I'm supposed to do for high school classes that have nothing to do with the path I've chosen for myself would stop affecting the things I need to do to get ready to leave, and that both would give me a little more time to do things like relax, be a teenager for a little longer, and sleep.

Anyway, I believe today marks 159 days left until graduation.

Homework? Who has time for that anymore?

I dont know about you, but I constantly find myself on facebook when I really should be doing homework or studying. And with 4 AP classes this really isnt a good habit of mine. I find this pretty common occurance with seniors, and high schoolers in general! We spend our time memorizing our new feeds, commenting on pictures, facebook chatting with our friends, and pretty much doing anything that puts off that homework assignment for a little bit longer.
And it's not just facebook; now us seniors have access to twitter, tumblr, and blogging :) So that begs the question...If teachers know we have too many distractions to actually do our work, why do they even assign it? For example, I have an AP midterm tomorrow but am I studying for it? Of course not! I'm blogging instead (sorry, mom!). And with second semester coming up I'm noticing seniors becoming even less motivated to do school work and more motivated to distract themselves with the social networks.

Countdown to graduation: 165 days!

Its the Final Countdown!

Welcome to our Senior Blog! This is a first hand account of senior year of high school, written by real life seniors! As of today, we have 166 days left until graduation. Let the countdown begin! There is plenty of time left for high school drama, especially since none of us do our homework anymore. Let us introduce ourselves.

Chelsea is a drama nerd who's taking more theatre/choir classes than academic classes! She's a grade A procrastinator, but got into college before everyone else anyway. She spends her afternoons (and weekends) in the drama room or on stage dancing and singing about (and acting). Her free periods are used for doing homework but she usually gives up on that and writes notes to her best friend Elizabeth.

Elizabeth is a fiery redhead who has gone by the nickname "Peanut" since the beginning of time. Other variations of this nickname include "Nut", "Nutty", and "Nutter", so if you see any of those names on this blog, she's who we're referencing to.  She loves sports; she was on the varsity field hockey team earlier this year, and she loves football and college basketball.  She was one of those overachieving juniors last year who signed up for every AP class she could, thinking she'd get ahead, and now kind of hates school (big surprise there, am I right?).

The two of us will each post once a week about whatever we feel like, be it our awesome friendship, our hatred of schoolwork or classes, pointless high school drama, and other random observations and updates from our stereotypical senior class.  Hope you enjoy our stories!  If not, that's cool too.  You're not really breaking our hearts or crushing our dreams.
